Spectrum: Call for Artists - 3rd Annual Plein Air Golf Event on June 4

Posted

Dorchester Center for the Arts (DCA) is announcing a call for artists for the 3rd Annual Plein Air Golf Event, presented by DCA and PNC Wealth Management. This unique fundraiser for DCA is being held on June 4 at the Choptank River Golf and Events Center in Cambridge.

The format for the painting is often referred to as a quick draw. Any artist from novice to professional may paint or draw any subject or scene at the golf course, with designated painting areas include any spot on the 18-hole course. Artists may arrive at the course anytime between 10:30 a.m. and noon on June 4 for check–in at the registration table. Artwork must be completed in that outdoor venue by 4:30 p.m. the day of the event.

The artwork will be judged. First place: $500, second $300, third $100. The top three paintings will be auctioned live during the dinner, which begins at 6 p.m., while the remaining paintings will be silent auctioned. Artist split is 65 percent of the sale price. Sales are for canvases only; no framing will be required.

Accommodations are available for artists traveling from out of town; please call DCA at 410-228-7782 for details. There is a $45 fee for artists to enter, which includes the post-event dinner and auction on Sunday as well as a private artists’ reception on June 3 at 6 p.m.

For more information, call 410-228-7782 or visit the website at dorchesterarts.org to download an entry form. The public is invited to attend the event. Admission to the dinner and auction on Sunday evening is $50 per person. For reservations please contact DCA. Proceeds from the Plein Air Golf event benefit the DCA Summer Arts children’s program and improvements to the performance venue.

MAY IN THE GALLERIES AT DCA

Young People’s Art Show – artwork in a variety of media from school-aged children in Dorchester County, runs May 5 – 28 with an Artists’ Reception and Awards Ceremony on May 13 from 5 – 7:30 p.m. Students of Anne Watts will be performing during the reception, and kid-friendly refreshments will be served. Sincere thanks to Delco Packaging Products for sponsoring this month’s show.

ART CAMP ANGELS

At the recent Guest Artist Gala, a fundraiser for DCA, the live auction included an opportunity to send a child to art camp at DCA. Thanks to the generosity of these community friends, 26 children will be able to attend a week-long enrichment program.

Numerous studies have shown that the arts not only enrich lives, communities and culture, but they are vital to a child’s education. Additional contributions to the Art Camp Angel fund are being sought to expand access to the arts this summer for more area families. Contact Barb Seese at DCA at 410-228-7782 or email bjseese@dorchesterarts.org to donate.
