CAMBRIDGE – On Jan. 13, after a five-day trial, a jury sitting in the Circuit Court for Dorchester County convicted James Andrew Reddick Jr., 32, of first-degree murder, second-degree murder, assault first degree, firearm use in the commission of a crime of violence, robbery, assault second degree, reckless endangerment, handgun on person, loaded handgun in vehicle, handgun in vehicle, loaded handgun on person, as well as conspiracy to commit most of the above offenses.

The trial was presided over by the Honorable Brett W. Wilson, senior judge of the First Judicial Circuit. Sentencing was differed pending a mandatory pre-sentence investigation. Reddick faces the penalty of life without the possibility of parole.

The charges against him arose from the April 15, 2020, shooting of Deonte Belcher, of Baltimore. Reddick and a co-defendant lured Mr. Belcher to the area of Horns Point and Lovers Lane, where Mr. Belcher was shot four times, and left until his body was discovered on May 1, 2020.

A statement from the Dorchester County State’s Attorney’s Office said, “Convictions in cases such as these would not be possible without the incredible investigative efforts of law enforcement. Sgt. Sears and the Maryland State Police Homicide Division assumed this investigation in May of 2020, and with the assistance of the Dorchester County Sheriff's Department, Baltimore County Police Department, and Baltimore City Police Department, they were able to identify and apprehend the responsible parties within a matter of weeks. Now, two and half years later, the family of Deontae Belcher can finally breathe a sigh of relief knowing justice has been served.”

The case was tried by State’s Attorney Amanda Leonard and co-counsel Special Prosecutor Thiru Vignarajah.
