PRINCESS ANNE — Members of the Dorchester County Public Schools Educational Equity Task Force recently attended the Man the Shore Summit, a kickoff event at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore, to bring awareness to the Men of Color in Education program and specifically to the need to diversify the teaching profession with male teachers of color.

DCPS will partner with UMES’ Men of Color in Education program to train, support, and increase the talent pool of male teachers of color. Starting in the Summer of 2021, DCPS high school students (with special emphasis on male students of color) will participate in the High School Teacher University, a five-week institute that offers high school students access to early college courses in teacher preparation, aligned with DCTC’s Teacher Academy of Maryland (TAM) curriculum.

Representing DCPS at Man the Shore were Anna Howie, DCTC principal and Supervisor of Career and Technical Education; Paula Turner, Supervisor of Science, Health, PE and STEM; Monique Ward, Supervisor of Social Studies and World Languages; and Lashawn Tucker, English teacher at Cambridge-South Dorchester High School.
