Mezick’s remains found
The family of Erik Mezick announced his remains were recovered on the Outer Banks of North Carolina on April 9. The National Park Service said that a body was found between Salvo and Avon around 9:15 a.m. on a Cape Hatteras National Seashore Beach. The NPS said the remains would be turned over to the Medical Examiner for positive identification, which is standard procedure in these cases. Mr. Mezick, a resident of Fruitland, was driving a Cloverland Dairy truck over the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel when his truck went off the bridge into the Chesapeake on Dec. 29, 2020. Extensive searches were unsuccessful in finding him in the months following the crash.
Salisbury Police Department
The Salisbury Police Department is currently investigating a homicide that occurred on the 600 block of Hill Street late on the morning of April 7. Warrant Arrest
On March 31, deputies from the Talbot County Sheriff’s Office arrested a 39-year-old Hurlock man. An arrest warrant was issued by the Talbot County Circuit Court for failure to comply with pretrial release conditions on the original charges of drug distribution and possession.
Harold Sylvester Johnson was taken to the Talbot County Central Booking facility for processing and was ordered held without bond pending further action by the Circuit Court Judge.

Assault
On April 9, deputies from the Talbot County Sheriff’s Office responded to the 4300 block of Lover’s Lane, Trappe for a domestic assault. Deputies contacted the victim, Allison Marie Pierson, 24, and observed injuries consistent with an assault. As a result, a 31-year-old man was arrested and charged with assault. Matthew Allen Baker was transported to the Talbot County Central Booking facility for processing and an initial appearance before the District Court Commissioner. Baker was ordered held pending further action by the court.

Aggressive solicitation
On April 11 at 11:53 a.m., the Easton Police Department received a call for a subject aggressively soliciting money at the Royal Farms gas station parking lot. The caller had identified the vehicle, tag number and the driver as a heavy white male, who approached the victim at the gas pumps.
The driver asked the victim for money to get to Shock Trauma to see his daughter. The victim told police that she had observed him get money from another customer prior to his approaching her.
An officer arrived and observed a tan Buick passenger car exiting the lot. The officer observed the vehicle allegedly commit several traffic violations in his presence. The vehicle was stopped at the Carroll Fuel on Elliott Road.

A statement from the Easton police said their department and various others have take numerous complaints about the man’s taking money, using the Shock Trauma story. Richard Lockwood Slacum III was charged with aggressive solicitation and several traffic offenses. He is awaiting his court date.
