ENM home burns
On Jan. 24 at 8:01 a.m., emergency crews were alerted to a structure fire at 5639 Beach Haven Road, East New Market. The incident required two alarms, 40 firefighters and one hour to bring under control.
A report from the Office of the State Fire Marshal said a passerby discovered the fire, whose preliminary cause was listed as accidental-electrical. No persons were injured, though the family’s pet dog died in the fire.
Damage to the home is estimated at $150,000, with a $30,000 loss to its contents.

Grasonville fatal shootings
The evening of Jan. 22, Queen Anne’s County Sheriff’s Department deputies and command staff responded to the 100 block of Canal St, in Grasonville, for a domestic-related double shooting. After being contacted by family members, responding deputies located two individuals within the residence with apparent fatal gunshot wounds.
Members of the Criminal Investigations Unit along with the Maryland State Police Mobile Crime Lab were requested to investigate and process the scene.
The incident was isolated to the involved residence and there was no threat to the community, a statement from Sheriff’s Office said.

“This is an unfortunate incident impacting families of the victims and neighbors,” the statement said. “Circumstances surrounding this incident are still being investigated.”
During the night of the investigation, Sheriff Gary Hofmann advised the Chester River Beach neighborhood that there was “no local threat and that the community is safe. This is an isolated event within a household. Thank you for everyone’s concern as we continue our investigation.”

Easton garage fire
On Jan. 22 at 11:08 a.m., Talbot County and neighboring emergency responders were alerted for a commercial structure fire at Automotice Mechanic Shop at 503 North St., Easton. Damage to the structure was estimated by the Office of the State Fire Marshal at $400,000, with a loss of $800,000 to its contents.
The building is owned by EA Land Company, LLC.
The two-alarm blaze required 54 firefighters and two hours to bring under control. One employee was evaluated by Talbot County Emergency Medical Services.
The fire marshal’s report said an employee inadvertently ignited gasoline vapors while working on a vehicle located within an interior service bay. The fire subsequently spread to nearby combustible materials causing extensive damage throughout the structure. Additionally, multiple vehicles located inside the automotive garage sustained damage as a result of the fire.

Vandalism
Narrative: During the last two weeks, the Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office has investigated three incidents where residents who live in the area of Valleywood Drive and Mt. Hermon Road have report vandalism to their vehicles. In these incidents, an unknown suspect has shot out the rear windows of their vehicles with either a BB or a pellet gun.
The Sheriff’s Office is actively investigating these incidents. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Wicomico County Sheriff’s Office at 410-548-4890.

CDS Arrest
On Jan. 9 at approximately 1:30 a.m., deputies from the Talbot County Sheriff’s Office stopped a motor vehicle on Ocean Gateway with expired registration. Deputies identified the driver as a 45-year-old Cordova man and developed probable cause to search the vehicle. Deputies located cocaine and paraphernalia during the search and placed the man under arrest. Paul Norman Baynard III was charged with possession of cocaine and paraphernalia and transported to the Talbot County Central Booking facility for processing and an initial appearance before the District Court Commissioner. Baynard was held pending further action by the courts.

Assault, harassment
On Jan. 10, deputies from the Talbot County Sheriff’s Office responded to the 30000 block of Barber Road, Trappe in reference to an assault. Deputies were told a 30-year-old Easton man had arrived at a residence on Barber Road and assaulted a female at that location.
A male at the residence attempted to stop the assault, and was also assaulted receiving facial injuries requiring transport to the hospital. Jamar Tavon Holmes was located in Easton and placed under arrest being charged with two counts of assault and harassment. Holmes was transported to the Talbot County Central Booking facility for processing and an initial appearance before the District Court Commissioner. Holmes was ordered held at the Talbot County Detention Center pending further action by the courts.

Violation of probation
On Jan. 12, deputies from the Talbot County Sheriff’s Office arrested a 55-year-old St. Michaels man. An arrest warrant was issued by the District Court for Talbot County charging him with violation of probation for a driving while intoxicated conviction. Robert Lee Holley was transported to the Talbot County Detention Center pending further action by the courts.

Failure to appear
On Jan. 15, deputies from the Talbot County Sheriff’s Office arrested a 69-year-old Millsboro, Delaware man. He was incarcerated at the Sussex County Detention Center in Georgetown, Delaware on unrelated charges.
An arrest warrant was issued by the District Court for Talbot County charging him with failing to appear for a scheduled court date and violation of probation. Jonathan Kim Walker was extradited back to Maryland and taken to the Talbot County Central Booking facility for processing. Walker was ordered held at the Talbot County Detention Center pending further action by the court.

Warrant Arrest
On January 21, 2021, Deputies from the Talbot County Sheriff’s Office arrested Christopher Andrew Tyler, 32 of Tilghman, MD. An arrest warrant was issued by the Circuit Court for Talbot County charging Tyler with violation of a pre-trial release conditions. Tyler was held at the Talbot County Detention Center pending further action by the Circuit Court Judge.
