ND girls are Class 1A champions in softball

SHILOH – North Dorchester High School’s softball team earned the Region 1A Championship on Thursday, with a 5-4 win over Colonel Richardson. From there, they advanced to the Maryland Public Secondary Schools Athletic Association quarterfinal Saturday, where the Eagles defeated CMIT North 11-0.

North Dorchester Eagles varsity's two pitchers didn't allow a single hit in the game. Jewels Vroman struck out Kelsi Hockaday to get the final out of the game.

The Eagles got things moving in the first inning, when Mackezie Lewis' sac fly scored one run for North Dorchester, following that with five runs in the second inning. Emilee Cohee, Maggie Hubbard, Maddie Nagel and Vroman all contributed in the big inning with RBIs.

Nagel led the Eagles to victory with dominating pitching. The righthander allowed zero hits and zero runs over four innings, striking out 10 and walking none. Vroman threw one inning in relief.

Neyla Carr took the loss for CMIT North, surrendering 11 runs on 12 hits over four innings.

The Eagles racked up 12 hits in the game. Vroman, Nagel, Chayla Creighton, Hubbard and Anna Hopkins all managed multiple hits.

North Dorchester Eagles varsity was sure handed in the field and didn't commit a single error. Hubbard had the most chances in the field with 13.

The girls were scheduled to compete in the state semifinals at Patterson Mill on Tuesday at Bachman Park at 4 p.m.
