SHILOH – Administrators at North Dorchester High School have named Breisha Cephas, Dionisio Polk, Cole Gibbs and Lexie Mills the Eagles’ Athletes of the Month for January. The players are chosen not only for their performance in competition, but also for their character and leadership.

The athletes receive prizes from local businesses in recognition of their success. “Thank you to our sponsors Whitten Insurance and Premier Cinemas,” North Dorchester Athletic Director Dave Morrissette said in a prepared statement.

Every month, the school names a boy and a girl for varsity honors, and for junior varsity/underclassmen. This month, the varsity athletes were sponsored by Whitten Insurance, while the JV/underclassmen were sponsored by Premier Cinemas.

Varsity Girl

Breisha Cephas, basketball - “With this being Breisha’s first year playing high school ball, she’s showing great leadership amongst her teammates.” a statement from the school said. “She comes to practices ready to get moving and ready to listen to what the coaches have to say. Breisha is a true athlete. She always pushes herself to her full capacity.”

Varsity Boy

Dionisio Polk, basketball - “Dionisio is a three-year varsity player and two-year captain who plays point guard for our team. He shows great leadership on and off the basketball court,” the statement said. “He leads the team in 3-pt field goals this season. He also exceeds in the class room with a 3.0 grade point average.”

JV/Underclassmen

Cole Gibbs, wrestling - “Cole began the season showing up at the first few practices in socks. Cole now has wrestling shoes and used them for two JV victories, which is an impressive feat at his weight class,” the statement said. “He has shown great promise this year on the wrestling team.”

Lexie Mills, basketball - “Lexie is a player everyone admires. With her positive attitude and her eagerness on the court, she is a wonderful candidate for Athlete of the Month,” the statement said. “Even during practice, Lexie plays as if she’s in a real game.”
