Enough! Shore shivers

Local residents and many others in the Mid-Atlantic region faced frozen conditions over the weekend, as Winter Storm Tabitha hit the area with ice accumulations of up to half an inch. Tree branches, heavy with ice, fell through electrical lines, causing power outages.

That weather event was followed by another storm, Uri, which caused 2.5 million customers to lose power across the country. On Monday, it appeared that Delmarva had dodged the worst of the power outages, with 206 Maryland and seven Delaware customers having lost electricity due to the storm.

But in Virginia, 134,627 were in the dark, following the unusually severe weather. And more was on the way at press time, as Winter Storm Viola moved towards the East Coast, bringing more frigid weather.
