Layton statement
Board of Education member from District 5 Laura Layton made the following statement after Tuesday’s election:
“I won re-election to the BOE! Thank you to all my supporters who voted for me in this election. I am excited for four more years of representing students, staff, and parents who depend on the Board to make the best decisions for our students. This is a challenging time for all of us, and particularly those who make those tough decisions.

“Special thanks to Dorchester Educators for supporting me, Patrick Donoho for doing a promo video, and Joe Layton who has patiently filled in all those campaign financial reports. Thank you again, and please contact me when you have a concern that I need to address.”

Attention high school writers
The State of Maryland Literacy Association is inviting entries in their 2020-2021 Young Authors’ Contest. Students in Grades 9 through 12 are asked to submit a poem or short story to Nichole Horton, Mid-Shore Literacy Association High School Contest Chair, by Dec 15 through hortonn@dcpsmd.org.
Entries must be original work; all entries use no smaller than 12 point font in Times New Roman; short stories must be between 800 and 2,000 words; poem entry will be a single poem, any style, between 25 and 300 words; entries must not include graphics; and each entry must include a completed cover sheet signed by the student author’s parent.

“There have been several state winners from Dorchester County in the past few years, and we look forward to hearing from more winning wordsmiths!” a statement from Dorchester County Public Schools said on Monday.

Caroline goes back to class
Based on current conditions, Caroline County Public Schools is planning to bring 4th, 5th, 6th, and 9th grade students back to school buildings on an AA/BB schedule. AA Schedule students will begin on Nov. 30. BB Schedule students will begin on Dec. 3.
Families will not be able to choose an AA or BB schedule. Students will be assigned to a schedule based on bus routes.
Families will be advised by the school of their student’s schedule no later than Nov. 23.
Transportation remains a challenge; if possible, families should consider options other than the school bus.
Face coverings are required for all students ages 5 and over.
