Class of 2022 graduates from Dorchester's two high schools
By Dave RyanDORCHESTER COUNTY – Students from the county’s two public high schools – North Dorchester and Cambridge-South Dorchester – marked the completion of their local educations with ceremonies last week.
The Class of 2022 graduated from C-SD on May 24, and from ND on May 25.
“Watch out, world!” a statement from the school said. “The Vikings are coming! More than 160 Vikings grabbed their diplomas as they rushed out to make their mark onto the wider world. We couldn’t be prouder of the Cambridge-South Dorchester High School’s Class of 2022!”
The Eagles’ traditional Cap Ceremony – in which the grads’ mortarboards are thrown high in unison – prompted best wishes. A statement from Dorchester County Public Schools said, “Those red caps flying in the air can only mean one thing – the Eagles have taken flight! Congratulations to the North Dorchester High School Class of 2022 as they leave the Nest one last time. We are proud of these young people and can’t wait to see where their wings take them!”
It wasn’t always easy for the grads as they made their way through difficult times. They were, C-SD’s statement said, “One of the most astounding classes … surviving a two-year pandemic, and never giving up on their dreams.”
C-SD’s class valedictorian was John Condon, with Ian Henry as salutatorian. Both are planning to study engineering, Mr. Condon at Messiah College and Mr. Henry at the University of Maryland, College Park. Nationally recognized coach Bobby Audley delivered the commencement address.
“Graduation can seem like a bittersweet ending to some students, but to our C-SD Viking seniors it is the first day of their new beginning. The members of the Class of 2022 woke up this morning to begin accomplishing great things. One of the most astounding classes to walk through the halls of our high school — surviving a two-year pandemic, and never giving up on their dreams — our Viking family is so very proud of these young adults. Each and every student will remain in our hearts for years to come. Best wishes to the Class of 2022!”
ND’s commencement address was given by former DCPS educator and band director Rodney Lee. The Eagles’ Class of 2022 valedictorian was Journey Jensen, with salutatorian Mackenzie Hughes. Ms. Hughes will attend the University of Georgia to study engineering and Ms. Jensen will be at Towson University, majoring in biology/pre-med.
