CAMBRIDGE – Police are seeking a 31-year-old Cambridge man after a vehicle pursuit led to the seizure of multiple firearms and crack cocaine.

On Feb. 14, at approximately 10:46 a.m., a Cambridge Police Department officer was on patrol in the area of Mace’s Lane and Bayly Road. The officer observed a vehicle allegedly committing traffic violations for speeding.

As the officer was traveling behind the vehicle, it also crossed the center line of the roadway while the driver was looking back at the officer in the mirror. A traffic stop was conducted on the vehicle on Bayly Road and Church Creek Road.

Prior to the officer contacting the occupants of the vehicle, the officer noticed a considerable amount of movement of the passengers.

The officer observed that the driver appeared to be overly nervous for a traffic stop, and requested an additional CPD unit to respond so the officer could conduct an exterior K9 sniff of the vehicle for the presence of controlled dangerous substances.

While waiting for backup to arrive, a wanted check was conducted on the driver, which revealed a potential warrant. The officers approached the vehicle again and requested the driver and passenger to exit the vehicle. The driver then fled from the traffic stop, proceeding west on Church Creek Road.

During the pursuit, officers observed that the vehicle was traveling in a reckless manner passing other vehicles at high speeds. As the vehicle was passing the area of Emily’s Produce, the officers observed a large white smoke cloud coming from the vehicle.

The vehicle then was observed on the wrong side of the roadway traveling into the grass area, coming to rest prior to a ditch. The driver was seen fleeing from the vehicle on foot into a heavily wooded area.

The passenger stayed with the vehicle and was detained. Officers started to pursue the driver through the woods, but the driver eluded them.

Information was also relayed to police to use caution because the driver was suspected to be involved with firearms and could be armed. At the same time, another CPD officer on scene observed in plain sight within the vehicle magazines for an AR/AK style platform rifle.

Other CPD units and allied agencies responded to the area, setting up a perimeter. The area was searched on foot by personnel from numerous law enforcement agencies, including K9 units and aviation, without success.

While the search was underway, it was learned that a subject matching the driver’s description had maneuvered through the wooded area around police on the perimeter and was picked up by a vehicle in the area of Rock Drive.

Officers conducted a search of the vehicle prior to it being removed by a tow truck. Located in the trunk were multiple firearms. The search was stopped at that time and the vehicle was transported to CPD for further investigation after a search and seizure warrant was issued.

Officers then responded to a residence associated with the driver in the 800 block of Hubbard Street. A search yielded a large assortment of ammunition, gun manufacturing equipment, multiple polymer 80 “Ghost Gun” frames, associated gun parts, an additional shotgun, crack cocaine, manufacturing materials for crack cocaine and related CDS paraphernalia.

Police are seeking Rhashean James Derell Moaney. At press time, he had not been located. Moaney does have pending charges related to this incident, and is considered to be armed and dangerous.

Police say if Moaney is encountered or observed he should not be approached, and the nearest law enforcement agency should be alerted.

Any information on Moaney’s whereabouts can be anonymous.

Additional charges may be pending. The investigation is ongoing.
