CAMBRIDGE - Cambridge-South Dorchester High School announced on Aug. 3 the appointment of three head coaches for the 2022-2023 academic year.

Girls’ Varsity Soccer and Girls’ Varsity Softball Head Coach Sarah Alpaugh is a fourth-grade teacher at Maple Elementary School and has been the Vikings assistant softball coach for the past four years and the assistant soccer coach for the past two years. Ms. Alpaugh played soccer throughout her youth and continued her softball career at Salisbury University.

She played centerfield for the Seagulls for four years and went on to be an assistant coach at Salisbury for an additional three years following her graduation. Ms. Alpaugh will be assisted by Steven Schyuler and Mykera Newton for both softball and soccer.

Girls’ Varsity Indoor Track Coach Stacey Brown is a 15-year veteran teacher at Mace’s Lane Middle School. At MLMS, Ms. Brown has helped start a running club, color guard and cheer squad.

“Ms. Brown was a volunteer track coach this past spring for the Vikings and has had the pleasure of teaching most of our athletes,” a statement from the school said.

During her high school experience, Ms. Brown ran both track and cross country and still enjoys running in her free time. Regarding taking over the indoor track program, she said, “I am thrilled to have the opportunity to help our students develop not just athletically but also as upstanding individuals.”

Boys’ Varsity Basketball Coach Shawn Tucker is entering his sixth year as a teacher at Cambridge-South Dorchester High School. Mr. Tucker was previously the Vikings Girls’ Varsity Basketball head coach during the 2019-2020 school year.

He has experience as an assistant basketball coach at Salisbury University, Chesapeake College and Parkside High School. Additionally, Mr. Tucker previously served as head coach for the Varsity Boys Basketball team at Mardela High School.

While attending Parkside High School, Mr. Tucker was a three-year varsity letter winner, where he finished as the program’s all-time leading point scorer.

“He has had the privilege of helping develop some of the Eastern Shore’s top male and female athletes and enjoys building relationships with players and coaches throughout the area,” the statement said.

Mr. Tucker will be assisted by Terrell Taylor, Ryan Waters and Desmond Gibbs. Mr. Tucker’s motto is “Dream Big … Think Big … Play Big.”

Mr. Tucker is “a great person on and off the court,” veteran player Mekai Dixon said. “He motivates me to be a better person.”

Currently Cambridge-South Dorchester High School has coaching vacancies in the following positions: assistant boys soccer coach, head boys swimming coach, head girls swimming coach, head boys indoor track coach, head varsity baseball coach, head JV baseball coach, head JV boys lacrosse coach, assistant boys lacrosse coach, and head varsity girls lacrosse coach.
