Cambridge police report: Vehicle pursuit and assault

On Aug. 20, at approximately 9 p.m., Cambridge Police Department (CPD) officers responded to the 700 block of Foxtail Drive for a motor vehicle collision with injuries, in which a subject had been reported to have been dragged by a car.

While police were enroute to the location, a Ford Fusion was observed exiting from the neighborhood at high speed and running a stop sign. Other officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop on the vehicle on High Street at Douglas Street, where the vehicle started driving the wrong way on Douglas Street, in an attempt to flee from officers.

After a pursuit of the vehicle, it was finally stopped in the 500 block of Muir Street. The driver, a 21-year-old Cambridge woman, was placed under arrest. Observing indicators that the driver was under the influence, officers conducted field tests, which she did not pass. At the Cambridge Police Department, she submitted to a breath test, which showed a blood alcohol concentration result over the legal limit.

Officers who responded to the original location found that the woman had driven there, and had assaulted a subject by exiting the vehicle and tackling the victim to the ground and pulling the person’s hair.

The suspect then entered the vehicle, which then dragged another person 12-15 feet when the suspect put the vehicle in reverse and accelerated with the door open, trapping the second victim. The suspect had her initial appearance before a court commissioner and was turned over to the Dorchester County Department of Corrections on no bond. Anaja Lanae Height was charged with:

Vehicle pursuit/CDS violation/Weapons violation

On Aug. 20, at approximately 11:57 p.m., CPD officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a Dodge Magnum with Virginia registration for a traffic violation in the 1000 block of Race Street.

The vehicle operator failed to stop and started driving in a reckless manner. The vehicle finally came to a stop in the area of Maryland Avenue and Hayward Street. Following a search of the vehicle, a 23-year-old Hurlock man was arrested.

During the search, a satchel-style bag next to the driver’s seat was observed, in which the handle of a handgun was seen. Officers located a loaded Ruger handgun.

Officers also located a large quantity of powder cocaine and crack cocaine. Further investigation showed that the driver is prohibited from possessing a firearm.

He was transported to CPD for processing and his initial appearance before a Court Commissioner. Person was turned over to the Dorchester County Department of Corrections on no bond. Jamar Lee Person was charged with:

  • CDS Possession with Intent to Distribute Narcotic

  • Loaded Handgun on Person

Persons was later found to have an active Dorchester County Circuit Court Arrest Warrant from a shooting incident that occurred on July 4, 2022 in the Cosby Avenue/Greenwood Avenue area. He was later turned over to the Dorchester County Department of Corrections on no bond. Persons was charged with:

  • Assault 1st Degree
  • Assault 2nd Degree
  • Firearm Use Felony Violent Crime
  • Reckless Endangerment (4 counts)
  • Firearm Possession Crime of Violence / Felony Conviction
  • Loaded Handgun on Person
  • Illegal Possession of Ammo
  • Alter Physical Evidence (2 counts)

Assault

On Aug. 19, at approximately 1:23 a.m., CPD officers responded to a residence in the 600 block of Bradley Avenue in reference to an assault, where they arrested a 42-year-old Cambridge man. Officers contacted the victim who reported being assaulted by the suspect. The victim said the suspect came to the home and began banging on the door.

The victim opened the door and the suspect threatened to the kill the victim and his or her children. He then threw the victim to the ground, a statement from the CPD said. Officers observed signs of injury that were consistent with what was reported.

The man returned to the location and was placed under arrest, at which time he was found to be intoxicated. He was transported to CPD for processing and his initial appearance before a Court Commissioner. He was turned over to the Dorchester County Department of Corrections on no bond. Robert Henry Johnson Jr. was charged with:

  • Assault 2nd Degree
  • Intoxication Endangerment

Warrant service/assault

On Aug. 21, at approximately 2:28 a.m., CPD officers met a victim, who reported being assaulted at a residence in the 600 block of Bradley Avenue at approximately 1:50 a.m., by a 35-year-old Hurlock man.

The victim reported being grabbed in the face, thrown to the ground and then punched. The Court Commissioner issued a warrant.

At approximately 5 a.m., CPD Officers located the suspect in the 600 block of Bradley Avenue, where he was placed into custody. He was transported to CPD for processing and his initial appearance, then turned over to the Dorchester County Department of Corrections on no bond. Andre Luther Woolford was charged with Assault 2nd Degree (two counts).

Assault

On Aug. 23, CPD officers located a 57-year-old Cambridge man in the 600 block of Robbins Street. He was served a Criminal Summons and released on his signature. Rudolph Murph was charged with Assault 2nd Degree.

Charges stem from an incident that occurred on Aug. 3 in the 800 block of Allen Street. The victim reported that the suspect approached him and indulged in a conversation. The victim reports that at the conclusion of the conversation the suspect assaulted him by punching him in the face. The victim applied for charges against Murph with the Court Commissioner, who issued a criminal summons.

Assault

On Aug. 25, at approximately 12:38 a.m., CPD officers located a 31-year-old woman, with no known address, in the 900 block of Pine Street. She was served a Criminal Summons and released on her signature. Janeil Fortt was charged with Assault 2nd Degree.

Charges stem from an incident that occurred on Aug. 24 in the 900 block of Pine Street. The victim reported that they were assaulted by the suspect while he or she was sleeping. The victim applied for charges against Fortt with the Court Commissioner, who issued a criminal summons.
