CAMBRIDGE, Md. — A man from Millsboro, Delaware, was charged with kidnapping, assault and related offenses after his alleged victim told employees of a bank that she was being held against her will.

On Tuesday at approximately 2:30 p.m., officers responded to Shore United Bank, 424 Dorchester Ave., Cambridge, in reference to a female telling employees that she had been kidnapped and was in fear for her life, authorities said.

A statement from the Cambridge Police Department said officers met with the woman, who told them that, at approximately 2 p.m. Monday, she heard a knock at her residence. Before she could answer, the door was kicked open and a man she knew pushed her to the ground, sat on her chest and choked her, police said.

The victim told police that the man repeatedly told her he was going to kill her and threatened her with a knife, as he took the keys to her house and vehicle, the statement said.

The woman was made to go with the man to various places, including out of state, police said, adding that, on Tuesday, the man demanded that the victim go to the bank and remove $200.

The victim was uninjured.

Jeffrey Scott Cannon, who was in the bank’s parking lot during the incident, was detained and charged with kidnapping, home invasion, armed robbery, robbery, first- and second-degree assault, false imprisonment and unlawful taking of a motor vehicle. He is being held in the Dorchester County Detention Center on no bond.
