C-SD rebounds with win, beats Snow Hill, 48-14

Posted

CAMBRIDGE —Cambridge-South Dorchester bounced back from a season-opening loss a week ago to  beat the visiting Snow Hill Eagles, 48-14, in football on Friday night.

The game was marred by penalties on both sides, which helped to stretch the time of play to more than three hours.

Dario Belizaire led the scoring for C-SD, with three touchdowns. The Vikings were led on offense by quarterbacks Talan Middleton, a junior, and Blake Labelle, a sophomore transfer from Easton.

Scoring got off to an early start in the first quarter, when Tayon Fletcher broke away on the first play from scrimmage to race 65 yards for a touchdown. James Frazier had a perfect night kicking, reliably knocking through extra points and a field goal in the first quarter, to make it 10-0.

The Eagles made their mark at 4:49 left in the period, when they scored their first touchdown against the Vikings in at least two years. A two-point conversion brought the tally to 10-6.

That was as close as the visitors would get. Belizaire returned the kickoff for a touchdown, and 17-6 on the scoreboard.
Loose play on both kick coverage squads was seen through the contest, and on the following kickoff, the Eagles’ returner broke free for a long run. It looked like a touchdown would be the result, until a whistle was heard.
An inadvertant whistle, it turned out
No penalty.
But no touchdown, either.

The Snow Hill sideline was...unhappy.

When C-SD got the ball back, LaBelle shook off his first-game jitters and tossed a pretty, 40-yard TD pass to Belizaire, and it was 24-6 at the end of the quarter.
In the second quarter, Belizaire was back in action, returning a punt for 35 yards and a score. A Frazier field goal made the score 34-6 at the end of the half.

In an extraordinary third quarter, the Eagles possessed the ball for 11:47 seconds, just 13 ticks from the entire period. They wrapped it up with a score by lineman Jonathan Brittingham, who got the ball from the Eagles’ QB on a busted play and took it across the goal line. A 2-point conversion makse it 34-14.

In the fourth quarter, LaBelle ran 7 yards for a score of his own, followed by KJ Dockins who took his turn in the end zone in the closing minutes, leading to the final tally of 48-14.

The Vikings fell to Milford, 34-14, last Friday.

This is C-SD Head Coach Toby Peer’s first season game leading the Vikings. Coach Peer was introduced to the public on July 28. Next week, the Vikings will be at home, facing James M. Bennett.
