Board of Ed approves school construction plan

CAMBRIDGE - The Dorchester County Board of Education has voted on and approved a three-phase proposal for county elementary schools. Phase one is for capital projects.

Phase 2 spans a seven-year period and would include building an intermediate school on Cloverdale Road, next to the current middle school.

All grades three through five in the North Dorchester areas would attend there. Hurlock Elementary would then become a Judy Center and all pre-K through second would go there, a statement from the Hurlock town government said.

Warwick and Vienna elementary schools would be closed.

Phase 3 would accomplish the same thing in Cambridge. There would be only one elementary school at that point in the city.

“This is an $82 million proposal that has now been sent to the Dorchester County Council for review and approval,” the statement said. “There will be public hearings scheduled and we will post them as soon as we are made aware of when and where they will be. This will impact all families in the County and your input is important so the Council can know your feelings in the proposal.”
