Arrest made in Lewes assault case

LEWES — A 39-year-old Lewes man was charged with felony assault after allegedly striking a male acquaintance in the face multiple times Sunday morning, authorities said.

According to Delaware State Police spokeswoman Cpl. Amina Ali, Michael A. Fitzgerald allegedly struck a man after an argument about money in the 23000 block of Martin Lane. The victim was treated at Beebe Healthcare for serious physical injuries.

Police said Mr. Fitzgerald was taken into custody at his residence without incident. He was charged with second-degree assault and arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court 3, Georgetown, before being released on his own recognizance.
