Arrest made in 2019 Cambridge fatal shooting

CAMBRIDGE — An arrest has been made in the fatal shooting of Tavaar T. Chester. A Cambridge man has been charged with first-degree murder and other offenses related to the case.

On Oct. 24, 2019, Cambridge police responded to the 800 block of Allen Street in reference to a subject with a gunshot wound. The victim was identified as Tavaar T. Chester, who was seated in the driver seat of vehicle in the 800 block of Allen Street.

It was learned by officers first on scene that Mr. Chester had suffered a single gunshot wound to his lower left back. Mr. Chester was transported to the University of Maryland Shore Medical Center at Dorchester where he succumbed to his injuries.

Throughout the last 18 months, detectives from the Cambridge Police Department have investigated this homicide along with the assistance of the Dorchester County State’s Attorney’s Office. On April 13, detectives were able to gather new information that led to an arrest warrant being obtained for a 36-year-old resident of 601 Carlton Court. Detectives were also able to obtain a search and seizure warrant for that address, which is where the man lived.

At 11:01 p.m., the Cambridge Police Department’s Emergency Response Team along with detectives from the Cambridge Police Department and including the assistance of the Dorchester County States Attorney, executed a search and seizure warrant at 601 Carlton Court.

At that time ,the suspect was located and taken in custody without incident.
Marcus D. Griffin was served the arrest warrant charging him with first- and second-degree murder, first- and second-degree assault, armed robbery, robbery, reckless endangerment, and handgun on person.

Mr. Griffin is currently being held in the Dorchester County Detention Center on no bond.
