TOWN POINT — The Antioch United Methodist Church, historically identified as the Antioch M. E. Church South, stands in a mature grove of oak trees along Town Point Road west of Cambridge. The single-story weatherboard frame church, enhanced by a series of pointed arch Gothic Revival entrance and lancet windows, retained a well preserved interior with grained beaded board wainscoting and a pressed metal ceiling.

Enhancing the period interior are early twentieth century pews and Victorian altar furniture. The church, erected in 1915, stands on the same site as an earlier 1855 structure that burned.
The congregational history dates back to the first decade of the nineteenth century. In 1861, the Antioch membership decided to align itself with the Methodist Episcopal Church South due to differences in opinion on the institution of slavery.

The interior of the church has seen little change since the early twentieth century. The floors are covered yellow pine tongue-and-groove boards, and the perimeter of the sanctuary is fitted with vertical beaded board wainscoting covered with an yellow ochre color graining.

The white plaster walls rise to a ceiling of pressed metal that follows the bottom contour of the rafters and collar beams. The altar at the north end of the sanctuary is raised and is furnished with late Victorian chairs and pulpit. A Victorian organ is located in the northwest corner.
In addition to its historical value, the church is known for its annual Peach Festival, held in August.

To reach the church from Cambridge, follow Route 16, make a slight right at Dailsville Road, then turn left at Town Point Road.

St. Mary Refuge of Sinners
Mass is held at Refuge of Sinners (Minnette Mills Dick Hall) on Sunday at 8:30 a.m. Congregants are asked to follow health guidelines, including maintaining a distance of six feet from one another, and wearing masks.
The Spanish-language mass is being held at 6 p.m. on Sundays, with the same protocols.

Church of the Nazarene
