Roundup: Dover’s Allen drafted by G League

Posted

Former Dover High basketball standout Jordan Allen was selected in the second round of the NBA G League Draft on Saturday.

Allen, who played at both Rider and Lynn University, was drafted by the Fort Wayne Mad Ants, the G League affiliate of the Indiana Pacers.

A 6-foot-4 guard, Allen averaged 18.4 ppg in his one season at NCAA Division II Lynn, in 2019-20. He netted 35 points in a pre-season game against Florida, hitting 9-of-17 three-point attempts.

Allen was the No. 46 pick overall in the G League draft. He’s been based in Houston, Texas, since May 2020, working out and playing in different camps and leagues around the country.

“The G League is a big deal, he’s only got one more step to go and that’s to be called up (to the NBA),” said Dover coach Stephen Wilson. “He had to work on different aspects of his game. They already thought he had an NBA body. They liked his handle, they liked his shot, they liked his persistence.

“They wanted to know if it was real, what they kept seeing.”

“The thing with me is, I’m so determined and persistent about what I want out of my life,” Allen said before going to Houston. “And I’m going to go get it, regardless. I’m a hard worker.”

Wilson said Allen will have to stay in the G League all season, which starts on Nov. 6. He’ll automatically be eligible for next spring’s NBA Draft.

Wilson thinks Allen might be the first Dover High product to be drafted by a league associated with the NBA.
