DOVER — The Dover Police Department arrested a 27-year-old Wilmington man on gun and drug charges Friday morning at the Bally’s Resort and Casino parking lot.
According to Master Corporal Ryan Schmid, the arrest was made after a lengthy investigation by the Dover Police Department’s Drugs, Vice and Organized Crime Unit with the department’s Street Crimes Unit.
Detectives learned that the man would be at the Bally’s Resort and Casino, 1131 North Dupont Highway, with drugs, according to a statement released by police.
Officers went to the parking lot and found the man in his vehicle.
When officers approached the man while he was still in his vehicle, he allegedly rammed his automobile into the responding police vehicles in an attempt to flee.
Police were able to stop the man and take him into custody without further incident, Master Corporal Schmid said.
A search of the vehicle led to the discovery of 1.312 grams of heroin/fentanyl, a 9 mm handgun and $2,233 of suspected drug proceeds.
Detectives later learned the man was also wanted on unrelated charges by the Bridgeville Police Department.
Zakeer Washington, 27, of Wilmington, was charged with possession of a firearm during commission of felony, two counts of possession of a firearm/ammo by person prohibited, carrying a concealed deadly weapon, possession with intent to deliver heroin, possession of a controlled substance tier 1 quantity, resisting arrest with force or violence, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
He was committed to Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on $104,100 cash bail.
