MIDDLETOWN - Two persons suffered non-life threatening injuries when shot in the area of Appoquinimink High School on Friday night, authorities said.
Middletown police said officers heard shots fired at approximately 9:15 p.m. and said the incident occurred in the area of Bunker Hill Road and Choptank Road.
The victims were located in the area and transported to Christiana Hospital for treatment, Middletown police said.
Appoquinimink High School hosted Middletown High School in an intra-district rivalry football game on Friday night.
No victim or suspect information was available at the time of a news release.
The Middletown Police Criminal Investigation Unit continues to investigate this case. Police are asking anyone who witnessed this incident to contact Detective Womer at 302-376-9950 or via email at jwomer@middletown.delaware.gov.

On its Facebook page, the school district posted a message that read:
"On Friday evening, an incident occurred off school property, on Bunker Hill Road, with injuries involved. The State Police are investigating and have asked anyone with information to contact the Delaware State Police’s main number."
On Saturday morning, Delaware State Police spokesperson Senior Cpl. Leonard DeMalto said Middletown police are investigating the incident and directed a request for any further information to that department.
Plans were made to limit attendance at Saturday's Archmere versus Howard football game in Wilmington.
