Two arrested on drug charges in Dagsboro

DAGSBORO — Two men were arrested on drug charges following a traffic stop Tuesday, Delaware State Police Senior Cpl. Leonard DeMalto said.

At approximately 8:10 a.m., troopers were on patrol on Nine Foot Road, west of Blackberry Road, when they observed a black 2012 Chrysler 300 with dark window tint traveling east on Nine Foot Road at a high rate of speed, police said.

Troopers conducted a traffic stop on the car and contacted the two occupants, identified as driver Tevin Smith, 32, of Ellendale, and passenger Brian Bell, 35, of Wilmington. The officers detected the odor of marijuana from the Chrysler, and both men were asked to exit the vehicle, Cpl. DeMalto said.

A search of the car led to the discovery of approximately 6.37 grams of suspected heroin in packages and approximately 2.38 grams of marijuana, he said. Mr. Smith and Mr. Bell were taken into custody without incident.

Mr. Smith was charged with possession of a controlled substance in a Tier 3 quantity, possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance in a Tier 3 quantity, possession of drug paraphernalia (three counts), possession of marijuana, second-degree conspiracy and traffic offenses. He was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 2 and committed to Sussex Correctional Institution, Georgetown, on $22,503 secured bond.

Mr. Bell was charged with possession of a controlled substance in a Tier 3 quantity, possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance in a Tier 3 quantity, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of marijuana and second-degree conspiracy. He was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 2 and committed to Sussex Correctional Institution on $22,501 secured bond.
