WYOMING — Police have increased patrols around the Camden-Wyoming Little League complex after a recent late-night gunshot resulted in three arrests, authorities said.

According to Wyoming Police, Darren Dennis, 21, of the 100 block of Thames Drive in Dover, was charged with possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony after an alleged incident at about midnight on Feb. 13.

Lead investigator Cpl. Mike Petyo said a shot was fired from the back seat of a vehicle toward a group of 18- to 21-year-olds. The round struck a parked vehicle. No injuries were reported.

“It has just been brought to our attention and we are going to increase patrols in the area,” Wyoming Police Chief Martin Willey said.

“We are going to address any incident that we respond to out there or see while on patrol accordingly. We want to deter any further incident like this or any other incident.”

A planned fight between two females drew people to the area, according to Cpl. Petyo.

Mr. Dennis was arrested on Feb. 17, police said. He was also charged with three counts of first-degree reckless endangering, second-degree conspiracy, criminal mischief and aggravated menacing.

He was initially held at James T. Vaughn Correctional Center near Smyrna on $46,500 secured bond.

Deana Martin, 19, of the 800 block of Evergreen Terrace in Magnolia, and Taylor Martin, 18, of the first block of Wesley Street in Camden, were both charged with three counts of third-degree reckless endangering and second-degree conspiracy, according to authorities. Taylor Martin also was charged with hindering prosecution.

They were released on unsecured bond pending a future court date.

The Martins are not related, Wyoming Police said.

On Tuesday, Camden-Wyoming Little League President Matt Knight said there have been loitering issues “every now and then” in the park and some windows were vandalized in November.

Even before law enforcement announced enhanced patrols in the area, Mr. Knight said “I already think the Wyoming Police Department does a great job patrolling the park in the offseason and during the season.”

Little League officials contacted residents near the park to call 911 if they see any suspicious activity, and gave Wyoming Police “permission and discretion to make arrests of anyone who is illegally there,” Mr. Knight said.

Mr. Knight said lighting in back of the parking lot engages after sundown throughout the year.

Also, Camden-Wyoming Little League is working to make sure an entrance gate is working and able to be closed more often. That issue, he said, can be approved at Wyoming Town Council’s meeting in March.

“Our No. 1 goal is safety,” Mr. Knight said.

An opening day ceremony is scheduled for April 15 at the complex at 89 Remus Drive, off Willow Grove Road (Del. 10) and South Layton Avenue.
