Taylor named Delaware Department of Correction deputy commissioner

Taylor named Delaware Department of Correction deputy commissioner
Delaware Department of Correction Commissioner Monroe B. Hudson Jr. announced that he has appointed Bureau of Community Corrections Chief Terra Taylor as the department’s deputy commissioner, effective Tuesday.
The role is Correction’s second-highest position, with responsibilities for supervising its four bureaus through policy development, strategic planning and decision-making.
“Over her 25-year law enforcement career, Terra Taylor has capably served in a variety of positions of increasing responsibility and, as a member of DOC’s senior leadership team for the past five years, has demonstrated unwavering support for our officers and professional staff statewide in meeting our dual mission of public safety and reentry through consistent deployment of proven public safety strategies and a willingness to embrace innovative best practices,” Mr. Hudson said.
“I will lean on her deep experience and proven capabilities, as we continue to move the DOC forward.”
As chief of community corrections since August 2021, Ms. Taylor has led a bureau that oversees Probation and Parole, pretrial services, the community work release program, electronic monitoring and other supervision programs for more than 10,000 individuals statewide.
“I am honored to be selected by Commissioner Hudson to serve as deputy commissioner of Delaware’s largest law enforcement agency,” she said. “I believe that the men and women of the Delaware Department of Correction have the most important and most challenging jobs in state government: to facilitate reentry pathways to successful and productive lives, while keeping our communities safe from crime.
“I will work hard to support our exceptional officers, counselors, teachers, professional staff, treatment providers and community partnerships with the training, resources and support to drive that mission success.”
Ms. Taylor, who joined the department in 1997, served as deputy chief of community corrections prior to being named its chief last summer.
She replaces Deputy Commissioner Marvin Mailey, who retired Sunday.
