WYOMING — Strawberry season has arrived, and Delawareans were out in the field at Fifer’s Farm on Friday to greet it.

The allure of pick-your-own bright red berries under the spring sun drew individuals, couples and families with children alike.

Aaron Jones and Ikegai Lenyee were enjoying the weather together as they gathered enough fruit for a salad they planned to make later. Mr. Jones said he comes to the farm a few times a season, making sure to scoop up fresh peaches and blueberries as they become available, as well. Next stop for the couple that day: the beach.

Joanne and Donnie Vanderwende stooped over separate rows of plants, placing the sweet morsels into a shared basket between them. It was the first time in four or five years the Vanderwendes had visited this family-run farm, Ms. Vanderwende said. She and her husband had been hunting for a place where they could pick strawberries. Several of their go-to locations didn’t have you-pick berries available due to a frost earlier this spring that harmed berry yields, she said, adding that she’d figured that Fifer’s was a sure bet.

Many families came with children in tow. Erin Yingling came with two: baby Emmett, in a sling, and his elder brother, Jensen, equipped with his own bucket. Jensen repeatedly asked his mother if he could pick the green ones. His mom advised against it.

Alex Archibald had driven from Glen Burnie, Maryland, to visit his girlfriend, Judy Boris, of Magnolia. Ms. Boris, who said she comes to Fifer’s most years, raved about the farm’s sweets, such as the apple cider donuts.

“They have the best ice cream,” she said.

New this year to Fifer’s are Saturday extras, which will feature a range of events including live music, tractor train rides, cooking demonstrations, face painting and more. The farm will have a baby animal exhibit as well as acoustic guitar music today.
