Roadway shooting in Georgetown under investigation

GEORGETOWN - A roadway shooting incident occurred in the area of Cokesbury Road and Seashore Highway Wednesday night, Delaware State Police spokesman Master Cpl. Leonard DeMalto said.

Cpl. DeMalto said that at approximately 9:28 p.m., troopers responded to a reported shooting. Upon their arrival, troopers contacted a 32-year-old man who had crashed his car into a ditch.

Police said ensuing investigation determined that the man had been driving northbound on Cokesbury Road when an unknown suspect began driving next to his car. The unknown suspect then fired several rounds into the man’s vehicle, causing him to drive off the roadway.

The man was not shot but was transported to an area hospital for minor injuries sustained when he struck the ditch, Cpl. DeMalto said. He was released a short time later.

No one else was harmed during this incident, authorities said. There is no suspect information available, and the circumstances and motive surrounding the shooting remain under investigation.
