Question of the Day: How have vaccines improved our lives?

Here is the Question of the Day:

A case of polio has been discovered Rockland County, New York, the first instance of the virus in the United States in nearly a decade. The crippling illness, which had 20,000 cases a year at its peak, was eliminated in the U.S. through widespread vaccinations, and is still a major cause of disability in developing countries. A Delaware man who had polio as a child says, “It’s a disease that will haunt you for the rest of your life.” What other examples can you share about how vaccines have improved life in this country?
