In just the first weekend of the DIAA Class 3A football state tournament, three teams avenged regular-season losses.

With two more rematches on tap in ths weekend's 3A semifinaks, will the trend continue?

Friday’s games

DIAA Class 2A state quarterfinals

Lake Forest (9-2) vs. Wilm. Friends (10-0), at Abbesinio Stadium, 1 p.m.

The Spartans just got their first tourney win since ‘95 but getting a second one will be tough.

AW: Friends, 28-7; TM: Wilmington Friends, 35-24; GF: Wilminhton Friends, 34-21.

DIAA Class 3A state semifinals

Middletown (7-4) at Smyrna (10-1), 7 p.m.

Smyrna has won nine straight since losing to the Cavs but now it will see how far it has come.

AW: Smyrna, 34-27; TM: Middletown, 21-14; GF: Smyrna, 28-21.

DIAA Class 1A state semifinals

Tatnall (6-5) at Laurel (11-0), 7 p.m.

One win shy of returning to the state finals, it’s hard to imagine anyone stopping the Bulldogs now.

AW: Laurel, 45-7; TM: Laurel, 49-14; GF:  Laurel, 35-7.

DIAA Class 1A state semifinals

Seaford (8-3) vs. St. Elizabeth (10-1) at Abbesinio Stadium, 7 p.m.

The Blue Jays would need a big effort to knock off the Vikings, who are 21-3 over last two years.

AW: St. Elizabeth, 35-21; TM: St. Elizabeth, 28-14; GF: St. Elizabeth, 28-14.

Saturday’s games

DIAA Class 3A state semifinals

St. Georges (5-6) at Dover (7-4), 7 p.m.

Dover has won four in a row over the Hawks but these are the biggest stakes yet for both teams.

AW: Dover, 27-14; TM: Dover, 30-20; GF: Dover, 21-14.

College

NCAA FCS Division I playoffs, first round

St. Francis. Pa. (9-2) at Delaware (7-4), 2 p.m.

The Blue Hens got their second chance but now they have to do something with the opportunity.

AW: Delaware, 34-17; TM: Delaware, 28-13; GF: Delaware, 24-14.
