MILFORD — A home in the 7100 block of Elgin Drive was heavily damaged by fire Sunday, the Delaware State Fire Marshal’s Office said.

Spokesman Michael Chionchio said the blaze, reported shortly after 8 p.m., occurred in the Watergate at Milford complex. The Carlisle Fire Co. responded, along with neighboring departments.

The fire damaged a three-story, occupied town house, causing approximately $100,000 in damage, including harm to five other units, he said.

An investigation determined that the fire originated inside an attached garage due to a malfunction in the electric service panel. Mr. Chionchio said it began accidentally.

Several residents were displaced, he added, and the American Red Cross provided emergency assistance.
