Maryland woman dies in single-vehicle crash

CAMDEN - A 21-year-old Maryland woman died in a single-vehicle crash on Willow Grove Road at approximately 7:51 a.m. Wednesday, Delaware State Police spokesman Senior Cpl. Leonard DeMalto said.

According to authorities, the woman, of Greensboro, was driving a Pontiac Vibe eastbound when it crossed over into the westbound lane for unknown reasons. The vehicle left the roadway and traveled a short distance until its driver’s side door struck a utility pole, police said. The vehicle then overturned onto its roof and came to rest in a ditch.

The woman, who police said was wearing a seatbelt, suffered serious injuries and was transported to an area hospital, where she was later pronounced deceased. Identification of the victim is pending notification to the next-of-kin.

The roadway was closed for approximately three hours while the collision was being investigated and cleared.

The DSP Troop 3 Collision Reconstruction Unit continues to investigate this collision. Troopers asked anyone who witnessed the collision to call Master Cpl. J. Lane at 302-698-8457.
