Lake Forest High downed Milford, 3-0, in a girls’ volleyball match on Tuesday evening.

The Spartans won by scores of 25-21, 25-16, 25-19, to raise their record to 5-4.

Local roundup: Lake tops Milford in volleyball; Dover edges Bucs in boys' soccer

Lake Forest High downed Milford, 3-0, in a girls’ volleyball match on Tuesday evening.

The Spartans won by scores of 25-21, 25-16, 25-19, to raise their record to 5-4.

The Buccaneers dropped to 2-5.

Cape Henlopen 3, Conrad 0: The Vikings posted the non-conference win by scores of 25-22, 25-19, 25-21.

Indian River 3, Delmar 0: The Indians topped the Wildcats, 25-12, 25-17, 25-15, in the Henlopen South matchup.

Delmarva Christian 3, Archbishop Spalding 0: The Royals earned the victory by scores of 25-17, 25-13, 25-21.

Seaford 3, Great Oaks Charter 1: The Blue Jays posted the victory by scores of 17-25, 25-3, 25-9, 25-0.

Field hockey

Delmar 10, Sussex Academy 0: The Wildcats tallied five first-quarter goals before improving to 9-0.

Maci Bradford finished with five goals and an assist while Jordyn Hollamon scored twice for Delmar, which held advantages of 25-2 in shots and 7-1 in corners.

The Seahawks got 12 saves from Kaitlyn Musgrove and Kacie Rawlings.

Milford 10, Dover 3: The Buccaneers notched a Henlopen North win over the Senators.

Boys’ soccer

Dover 2, Milford 1: The Senators netted a goal in each half before picking up the Henlopen North victory.

Alex Escalante-Diaz and Rolando Betancourt-Mejia both scored for Dover, which led 2-0.

Thompson Burke scored on a PK for the Buccaneers.

Caesar Rodney 2, Smyrna 0: Trevor Sullivan netted a pair of second-half goals to give the Riders the Henlopen North victory.

Jacoby Sheaffer made three saves to earn the shutout for CR, which held advantages of 14-5 in shots and 7-2 in corner kicks.

Alex Valle Roman made eight saves for the Eagles.

Laurel 2, Lake Forest 0: The Bulldogs used a two-goal second half to break a scoreless tie in the Henlopen South win.

Sussex Academy 4, Delmar 0: The Seahawks built a 2-0 halftime lead in earning the Henlopen South victory.

Baseball

Sussex Academy hires Nowell: Doug Nowell, who won a state title as Salesianum’s coach in 2008, has been hired as the head coach at Sussex Academy.

Nowell, who was most recently an assistant coach at Wilmington University, has also coached at Conrad, A.I. duPont and Delcastle. He went 74-18 in four seasons as Sallies’ coach.

In 2006, Nowell was named the state Coach of the Year. The Sals reached at least the state semifinals in each of his four seasons there (2006-09).

College football

Three Hornets honored: Three Delaware State players have been honored by the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference for their roles in the Hornets’ 14-9 victory over Robert Morris on Saturday.

Punter Matt Noll was named the MEAC Special Teams Player of the Week after averaging 43.6 yards on 11 punts in the game. Three of his kicks were 50-or-more yards, including a long of 64, and two punts that landed inside the Robert Morris 20-yard line.

One of the punts resulted in a muffed return that the Hornets recovered in the end zone for a touchdown.

Delaware State’s Coleon Williams was named the MEAC’s Rookie of the Week after recovering the muffed punt in the end zone for what turned out to be the game-winning touchdo. On defense, Williams recorded a pair of pass breakups in the contest.

Hornet defensive lineman Isaiah Williams was named MEAC Defensive Player of the Week honors after registering two sacks and a quarterback hurry. He had four total tackles, including three solo stops against the Colonials.

College golf

UD men fourth in tourney: The Delaware men’s golf team finished in fourth place while Casper Nerpin and Michal Bargenda both tied for sixth place among individuals at the Ironwood Collegiate Classic.

The Blue Hens fired a 289 score on Tuesday to finish fourth out of 12 teams with an 872 total. Tournament host East Carolina captured the team title at 870.

Bargenda carded a four under par 68 during his final round on the par 72, 7,120-yard course at Ironwood Country Club, finishing with a one under par 74-73-68=215.
