GEORGETOWN — Sussex Central High has handed Dover some tough football losses over the years.

On Saturday night, the Senators got a little revenge.

After getting shut out by the Golden Knights earlier in the season, sixth-seeded Dover returned the favor, blanking the No. 3 Golden Knights, 20-0, in the quarterfinals of the DIAA Class 3A state quarterfinals.

And the icing on the cake is that the Senators (7-4) will get to host No. 7 St. Georges in next weekend’s state semifinals. The Hawks upset No. 2 Appoquinimink, 13-7, on Friday.

It's the second year in a row that Dover has reached the semifinals.

Top-seeded Smyrna will host No. 4 Middletown in the other semifinal. The Cavaliers beat Salesianum, 34-7, in their semifinal on Saturday night.

In a contest that was scoreless at halftime, Dover took control with a pair of third-quarter touchdowns.

With the Senators up 7-0, senior Tyron Abrams broke free from a bunch formation and sprinted 86 yards for a touchdown that put Dover ahead by 14.

Abrams then scored again on a 36-yard run with 3:07 remaining in the contest to seal the outcome.

The Senators, who lost to Central 21-0 in October, also got a 27-yard scoring run from freshman Jaheim Cole after taking an option pitch from quarterback Nahseem Cosme.

Dover’s defense preserved its shutout after getting second-half interceptions from Tamir Darden Jefferson and Christopher Grady.

Dover beat St. Georges, 31-6, during the season. It also topped the Hawks, 9-7, in last year’s state tournament.

Seaford 34, Wilmington Charter 7: The sixth-seeded Blue Jays knocked off the No. 3 Force in the Class 1A quarterfinals on Saturday.

Seaford advances to play at No. 2 St. Elizabeth (10-1) next weekend on a day and time TBD.

Laurel 41, St. Andrews 7: Kylse Wilson ran for three touchdowns as the top-seeded Bulldogs posted the win in the quarterfinals of the DIAA Class 1A football state tournament on Friday night.

The win was the 14th in a row for the defending state champion Bulldogs (11-0), who will next host the winner of Saturday’s matchup between No. 4 Odessa and No. 5 Tatnall.

That semifinal matchup will be played on a day and time TBD.

Laurel led 34-0 at halftime on Friday against the Cardinals (4-7). Kaden Shockley scored on a 60-yard run and also threw a 45-yard scoring pass to Ny’Aire Farlow.

Patrick Belle added the Bulldogs’ other touchdown on a nine-yard run.

St. Elizabeth 32, Indian River 21: The seventh-seeded Indians held a one-point lead early before the No. 2 Vikings pulled away to the Class 1A quarterfnal win at Abbesinio Stadium.

Hayden Hall scored on a 64-yard run with the PAT kick from Axel Olguin Hernandez giving IR (5-6) a 7-6 advantage. The Indians still trailed only 28-21 when Jayvion Chandler scored on a run.

But a 69-yard touchdown run from Michael Downes sealed the victory for St. Elizabeth (10-1). Downs, who also scored on a 79-yard run, finished with three TDs.
