Kinsely Rayne singled home Aven Naugle with the winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning to give Delmar, Md. a dramatic 2-1 win over New England in the Little League softball World Series on Wednesday afternoon.

The Mid-Atlantic champions are now 2-0 in the 12-team tournament being played in Greenville, N.C.

Delmar doesn’t play again until Friday at 4 p.m. when it faces either Europe-Africa or Asia-Pacfic in the chgampionship in Little League’s Major League division (11-12 year olds).

In Wednesday’s game, Naugle singled, stole second base and advanced to third on a fly ball. After New England intentionally walked the bases loaded, Rayne lined a two-out single to left field.

The hit set off a celebration by Delmar's players, who eventually tackled Rayne along the third base line.

After New England (0-1) scored in the top of the third, Delmar tied it in the bottom of the inning when Macy Rickards (2-for-2) doubled home Isabella Campbell, who reached base on an error.

Rickards pitched a three-hitter with 18 strikeouts and three walks for Delmar, which is the Maryland state champion.

Baseball

8-10 Mid-Atlantic Regional

MOT 10, Maryland 5: Middletown rallied to improve to 2-1 on Wednesday in the regional being played in Cranston, R.I.

The Delaware state champions face New York on Thursday at 2 p.m. in their pool-play finale as they try to advance in the tournament.

Dawson Soldo led a 10-hit attack with three hits and two runs as MOT overcame a 5-1 deficit. Kyle Bailey and Daniel Radovanovic both had two doubles and two RBI.

On the mound, reliever Tripp Harding allowed just one run and struck out six in 3.2 innings. Billy Windley came in to close it out, striking out three of the five batters he faced.

Harding, Windley and Brant Abbott combined for 10 strikeouts for MOT.

Plaque dedication for Feklar at CW: On the 30th anniversary of his death, a plaque in the memory of former baseball manager Roy D. Feklar will be dedicated at the Camden-Wyoming Little League complex on Saturday at 11 a.m. The public is invited to attend.

Feklar, who died in 1992 at age 83, grew up in Camden-Wyoming and lived in Dover nearly all his life. He was the manager for many years of the Delaware Red Sox, an amateur baseball team that played up and down the East Coast.

“Uncle Roy was incredibly passionate about baseball and would be very proud of this honor. He truly loved central Delaware,” said Feklar’s nephew, Mike Brittingham, of Milford.

Feklar was doing what he loved when he died in Elmira, N.Y. on July 2, 1992. He was watching a minor league baseball game when he was hit in the head with a foul ball and succumbed to a brain injury.

Feklar’s grandniece, Laurie Rojas, will sing ‘Take Me Out To The Ballgame’ and the ‘Star-Spangled Banner,’ his two favorite songs, at the plaque dedication.

DelPark donates to Meals on Wheels: Delaware Park Casino & Racing recently presented of $10,000 to Meals on Wheels Delaware through donations made by its customers.

“It is an unfortunate reality that many homebound seniors don’t know where their next meal is coming from. Thanks to the generosity of our guests, we can help those who may be struggling,” said Ron Baumann, Delaware Park’s President & General Manager.
