Madison Brengle will open Wimbledon with a first-round matchup against fellow American, Lauren Davis, on Tuesday.
The 32-year-old Dover native is currently ranked No. 59 in the WTA tennis women’s rankings. Davis, 28, from Gates Mills, Ohio, is ranked No. 102.
Brengle has reached the third round at Wimbledon twice since 2017, including last year. She’s won first-round matches in her last four appearances in the Grand Slam event.
All-time, Brengle is 3-2 against Davis but this is the first time they’ve faced each other on grass. The winner of the Brengle-Davis match takes on the winner of the match between No. 25 Amanda Anisimova and No. 71 Xinyu Wang.

MOT 13, Smyrna-Clayton 5: The Middletown all-stars captured the District I title with the win on Monday.
Rylyn Sinsabaugh went 4-for-4 with an RBI for MOT, which went 2-0 in the tourney, while Grace Wyatt went 3-for-4 with a home run and four RBI Also for MOT, Audrey Sechrist, Kayla Olsen and Julianna Perrucci also went 3-for-4 while Skylar Reynolds went 2-for-3.
For Smyrna-Clayton’s Little Lass (2-1), Jeweliana Henry and Avery Johnson (1 RBI) both had two hits apiece.

MOT-Red 13, Smyrna-Clayton 4: Nick Deramo drove in five, with three hits including a pair of triples, for MOT-Red on Sunday evening.
Pitcher Lucas Sartin allowed only two hits with eight strikeouts over three shutout innings. Andrew Gambino struck out four in two shitout innings.
For Smyrna-Clayton, Cole Clark had five strikeouts in two and two-thirds innings.

Smyrna-Clayton Red 8, Camden-Wyoming Blue 2: The Smyrna-Clayton squad advanced with the win on Sunday.
Pacing Smyrna-Clayton Red were Liam Roberts (2 hits, double), Eli Roger (1 hit), Wade McMaster (3 hits, double) and Jackson Carter (3 hits).
C-W Blue, which went 1-1 in the tourney, was led by Aiden Jacobs (2 hits), Luke Street (1 hit, 1 RBI) and Mason Hanggi (1 hit, 1 RBI).

MOT 9, Smyrna-Clayton 1: Riley Douglass, Caleb Morris and Taylor Zehnder combined to pitch a no-hitter with 14 strikeouts on Sunday.
MOT was led by Riley Douglass (2 runs) and Mason Rittenhouse (1 RBI, 3 runs), who both went 2-for-2.
Shortstop Frankie Petrucci made a big defensive play with the bases loaded for Smyrna-Clayton.
Local golf
Felner leads Del. Amateur: Reeve Felner, a college player from Virginia, fired a one-under par 71 to take the lead after the first round of the 71st annual Delaware Amateur on Monday.
Matt Dolinsky is in second after carding a 73 in the three-day, 72-hole tournament being played at Bayside Resort Golf Club in Selbyville. Caesar Rodney High grad Jay Whitby is tied for third with Dougie Ergood after both shot 74s.
Felner, who will be a junior at Belmont, birdied three of the final four holes to be the only player to finish the first day under par.
College football
Milford’s Aladuge commits to Duke: Milford High football player Desmond Aladuge has verbally committed to Duke.
Aladuge, who will be a senior defensive end this fall, had several scholarship offers including ones from Connecticut, Massachuestts, Navy and Rice as well as three Ivy League programs. The 6-foot-5, 248-pund lineman has an unweighted 3.9 GPA.
Hens pick up Georgia WR: Josh Moran, who was formerly a member of the Georgia football team, announced he will use his final season of eligibility at Delaware.
A 6-foot-2, 180-pound receiver, Moran said he received a medical redshirt to play this fall. He was at Georgia from 2016-19 after missing his senior season in high school because of injury.
College field hockey
Hens ink German player: Delaware coach Rolf van de Kerkhof announced the addition of freshman Lia Becker to the Blue Hens’ field hockey roster Monday.
Becker, a native of Hamburg, Germany, has been playing field hockey for 12 years. In 2016 she earned a spot on the German Champion team with her club.
She is also a two-time German champion with the team of Hamburg (2017, 2019). In 2019, Becker became a 6-Nations Tournament Winner with the national team.
