Homeless advocacy group in Georgetown requests support

GEORGETOWN — Noting that donations can dry up in the summer, The Shepherd’s Office has issued a plea for help.

The nonprofit program for the homeless, hungry and lonely is hoping the community can donate fruit, snacks, cutlery and sanitary items for its brown-bag program, which accompanies free lunch Mondays and Thursdays, and free dinners Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

With each meal, a bag of items is also given to the participant, director Jim Martin said.

Needed every weekday are 150 of each of the following: brown bags, granola bars, applesauce, trail mix, apples, bananas, tangerines, forks, spoons, napkins, baby wipes and bottled water.

Located at 408 N. Bedford St., The Shepherd’s Office relies on its “crockpot people” to drop off homemade meals. It also is a food pantry, providing various boxes of staples and free bread upon request.

“We also have ‘free everything’ yard (sale) events every day of the week, as weather permits,” said Mr. Martin.
