Frederica traffic stop brings felony gun charges

FREDERICA - Charles Drummond III, 55, of New Castle, was arrested on felony gun charges following a traffic stop Friday morning.

Delaware State Police Tpr. Raushan Rich said that at approximately 12:54 a.m., troopers were on patrol on Del. 1 north of Bowers Beach Road when they observed a Chrysler 300 exit its lane multiple times. Troopers stopped the Chrysler and contacted Mr. Drummond, police said.

After observing signs of impairment, Cpl. Rich said, troopers initiated a DUI investigation. Mr. Drummond was taken into custody and troopers conducted an inventory search of the Chrysler. Troopers located a loaded handgun which was concealed within the vehicle, police said.

Mr. Drummond was charged with carrying a concealed firearm, possession of a firearm while under the influence, driving under the influence of alcohol, and failure to remain within a single lane. He was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 7 and released after posting a $7,001 secured bond.
