The Cambridge Police Department on March 23 informed the community of a scam. Police said citizens have been getting emails with a drop box attachment and telephone calls from someone falsely claiming to be a Cambridge police officer.

During the call, the person asks for confidential information and the email asks for the same. “Please be mindful of giving out any of your personal information unless you can verify the source,” the statement said.

Fatal crash in Berlin

State police continue the investigation into a fatal crash that occurred March 18 in Berlin. The deceased is identified as Linda Brown, 69, of Berlin. She was the operator of a 2009 Toyota Tacoma. Brown was pronounced deceased on the scene.

The second vehicle involved was a tractor trailer, a Volvo Truck with a 2015 Trailer. The driver is identified as Marius Bouw, 72, of Arapahoe, North Carolina. There were no reported injuries to the truck driver.

The preliminary investigation and witness accounts of the incident indicate the driver of the Tacoma failed to stop at a stop sign, driving west on Georgetown Road attempting to cross the northbound lanes of US 113. The tractor trailer was traveling northbound on US 113 when the crash occurred.

Sex abuse

The Talbot County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division have continued their investigation into an alleged sexual abuse case involving a Tilghman Island man. In February 2023, detectives initiated an investigation into child abuse that occurred at a residence on Tilghman.

The investigation revealed that the man allegedly sexually assaulted a juvenile on two different occasions. Detectives obtained an arrest warrant through the Talbot County District Court charging Eric L. Werner with child abuse and other related charges. Werner was arrested and is currently being held without bond at the Talbot County Detention Center.

Detectives continued working this investigation and identified another juvenile victim this month. Werner has been charged with Second Degree Child Abuse, Second Degree Assault, Third Degree Sex Offense, Fourth Degree Sex Offense and Sexual abuse of a Minor.

Assault

On March 16, at approximately 4:39 p.m., CPD officers responded to the 1200 block of Stone Boundary Road for a physical disturbance reported to have involved a knife. Curtis Matthew Smith, 53, was charged with Assault First and Second Degree, and Reckless Endangerment.

Rape

On March 17, at approximately 5:49 p.m., CPD officers arrested a 20-year-old man in the 900 block of Washington Street. Angellos Dorian Sanchez was charged with Rape 1st Degree, Rape 2nd Degree, Sex Offense 3rd Degree, Sex Offense 4th Degree Sexual Contact, Assault 2nd Degree and Sexual Solicitation of a Minor.

Shots fired investigations
  • On March 18, at approximately 4:12 a.m., CPD officers responded to the 900 block of Hubbard St for a “Shot Spotter Alert” reporting multiple shots fired. Officers located multiple spent shell casings in the 600 block of Carlton Court. Officers did not locate any victims, damaged property or witnesses in the area.
  • On March 18, at approximately 8:04 p.m., CPD officers responded to the 700 block of Douglas St for a “Shot Spotter Alert” reporting multiple shots fired. Officers located a residence that had been struck by gun fire as well as several spent shell casings in the area.

Officers also learned that a subject was observed chasing another with a gun and that either a truck or an SUV was observed leaving the area. Officers were unable to obtain more information due to subjects in the area not being cooperative with Law Enforcement.

CPD is asking for any witnesses to the incident to contact the Cambridge Police Department at 410-228-3333. Witnesses may remain anonymous.

Indecent exposure

On March 18, at approximately 4:50 p.m., CPD officers responded to Walmart in reference to an Indecent Exposure incident. Officers contacted Asset Protection Officers (APO) who observed a male subject inside of Walmart on security video exposing himself to patrons.

Officers located the subject inside of the store and escorted him to the APO office. The subject was identified as a 42-year-old Cambridge man.

The man was also found to be sex offender. Jakobra Kantro Jenkins was charged with indecent exposure. He was held without bond.

Weapons violation

On March 19, at approximately 9 p.m., CPD officers conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle driven by a 33-year-old Chestertown man for operating without any headlights on in the 400 block of High Street.

The man was found to be in possession of multiple bags of suspected cocaine. During a search of the vehicle, officers located a loaded .357 magnum revolver. Donte Lee Donte Lee Donte Lee Henry was charged with the following:

  • CDS Possession Not Cannabis (Cocaine)
  • Loaded Handgun in Vehicle
  • Handgun in Vehicle
  • Loaded Handgun on Person
  • Handgun on Person

The gun was not registered to Henry and was found to be registered to a person in Centreville. Investigation is continuing and additional charges may be pending if the gun is discovered to be stolen.

Vehicle thefts

Between March 17 and 20, the Cambridge Police Department has taken multiple reports of motor vehicle thefts. Thieves are tampering with steering columns to take the vehicles.

With any of the below-listed vehicle thefts, the Cambridge Police Department is requesting the assistance of the community with any information on suspects. All calls and information can remain anonymous.

Vehicle 1

On March 17, from the 300 block of Bayly Ave., a black 2017 Hyundai Sonata with Maryland registration was stolen. Both keys for the vehicle were located by the victims at the location. The vehicle was left unsecured.

On March 18, CPD responded to the area of Oakley Street and Locust Street in reference to a report of juveniles in the area on foot and a vehicle that had been driving the wrong way. It was also reported that it appeared that the juveniles were attempting to break into vehicles.

The description given of the vehicle matched that of the previous reported stolen vehicle. Upon officers’ arrival in the area they observed a vehicle stopped in the roadway on Glasgow Street. Officers observed a young male fleeing from the vehicle on foot towards the Talbot Avenue area running through yards.

Officers did locate the vehicle, which was the reported stolen vehicle. The vehicle now had extensive front end damage. This investigation is continuing.

Vehicle 2

On March 18, CPD officers had responded to the area of Oakley Street and Locust Street for a report of juveniles in the area on foot who appeared to be breaking into vehicles and a report of a vehicle traveling the wrong direction on Locust St.

Officers canvassed the area and located two vehicles that had just been involved in a motor vehicle collision in the 300 block of Somerset Avenue. One vehicle located was the previously reported stolen vehicle.

The second vehicle was a black 2011 Hyundai Sonata with Maryland registration that was involved with the motor vehicle collision. This vehicle was found to have been stolen from the 1000 block of Locust Street.

This vehicle also had extensive damage. This investigation is continuing.

Vehicle 3

On March 18, officers had responded to the area of Oakley Street and Locust Street for a report of juveniles in the area who appeared to be breaking into vehicles and a report of a vehicle traveling the wrong direction on Locust St.

Officers located two vehicles that had crashed, both were reported stolen. They located a third vehicle, silver 2013 Hyundai sedan with Maryland registration that had been damaged. Police said it appeared that the juveniles involved with the other vehicles thefts had attempted to steal this car. This investigation is continuing.

Vehicle 4

On March 19, it was reported that a silver 2017 Hyundai Elantra with MD registration 1EC2530 was stolen from the 400 block of Kent Street. The vehicle has a white Baltimore Ravens sticker on the rear window as well as a sticker of a wolf and a dragon on the rear window with tinted windows.

At this time the vehicle has not been recovered. The investigation is continuing.

Vehicle 5

On March 20, it was reported that a silver 2013 Hyundai Sonata with Maryland registration was stolen from the 500 block of High Street. The vehicle was reported stolen from the victim’s driveway between 5:30 p.m. on March 19 and 6:50 a.m. on March 20.

On March 20 at approximately 4:10 p.m., officers responded to the 700 block of St Clair Avenue for a report of a silver Hyundai being “ditched” by juveniles. Officers arrived at the location and found it to be the reported stolen vehicle from High St. The investigation is continuing.

Hyatt lifeguard assaulted

On March 20, at approximately 5:59 p.m., CPD officers met with a 31-year-old Cambridge woman in the 400 block of Light Street, who was was served with a criminal summons.

Charges stem from an incident that occurred on March 19 at the Hyatt Regency. The victim, who is a lifeguard at the resort, told police that children had been disorderly, and were told to stop running around the pool.

After the lifeguard’s shift, a 13-year-old juvenile went to the employees’ office and verbally assaulted the lifeguard. The child’s mother then started arguing, and according to other employees, put her finger in the lifeguard’s face and issued threats.

Another employee attempted to step in front of the parties at which time the juvenile physically assaulted the employee. Other employees attempted to separate the suspect and the juvenile from the area when the suspect started to assault employees and a melee ensued.

The employee applied for charges and a Criminal Summons was issued. Shaquiell Monique Lane was charged with Assault 2nd Degree.

On March 23, officers responded to the 400 block of Light Street for a disturbance, where they served a criminal summons on Lane, charging her with Assault 2nd . 

Charges were from the incident at the Hyatt, in which an employee was trying to defuse a disturbance among the Lane, her daughter and another co-worker.

The victim reported that Lane punched her in the eye, after which she continued to be assaulted by Lane and multiple juveniles.

Also at that time on March 23, Lane was served a criminal summons charging her with Burglary 4th Degree Theft and Theft $100 to Under $1,500.

Charges stem from an incident that allegedly occurred on Jan. 20, at approximately 12:29 p.m. at the Goodwill store in Cambridge. Lane was reported to have entered the establishment, and with the help of a juvenile female, placed multiple items in a cart. The total value of the items was $300.35. Lane and the juvenile were observed leaving the store without paying for or attempting to pay for the items, police said.

Assault

On March 21 at approximately 6:58 p.m., CPD officers responded to the 700 block of Academy Street for a physical disturbance. Contact was made with the victim who was observed to be bleeding. The victim reported being hit in the face several times by a 34-year-old Cambridge woman. Shemalariya Heashia Pinder was charged with Assault 2nd Degree

DUI

On March 21, at approximately 8:19 p.m., CPD officers responded to the 900 block of Washington Street in reference to an intoxicated subject. They contacted the subject, a 40-year-

old Cambridge man, who then left that area.

At approximately 9:37 p.m., officers responded to the 500 block of Bayly Road in reference to a report of a drunk driver. Christopher Paul Hurst was charged with offenses including Driving Vehicle While Under the Influence of Alcohol

Arson threat

On March 22 at approximately 11:46 a.m., CPD officers located a 41-year-old Cambridge man in the 200 block of Byrn Street who had an active District Court Arrest Warrant through the Cambridge Police Department.

Charges stem from an incident that occurred on March 21, when the victim reported that the suspect was upset due to the victim not answering their phone right away. Police say the suspect made threats to the victim about burning their house down with their kids inside.

Hobart Rusty Tyler was charged with Arson Threat.

Machine gun

On March 23, at approximately 2:40 p.m., CPD officers responded to the Dorchester County Detention Center and located a 22-year-old Easton man who had an active Dorchester County Circuit Court Arrest Warrant through the Cambridge Police Department. Justin Anthony Foster was charged with the following:

  • Machine Gun Aggressive Purpose
  • Illegal Possession Ammunition
  • Loaded Handgun on Person
  • Loaded Handgun in Vehicle
  • Rapid Fire Trigger
  • Regulated Firearm Illegal Possession
  • Handgun on Person
  • Handgun in Vehicle
  • Detach Magazine Over 10 Rounds
  • Fail to Obey Lawful Order
Vehicle pursuit

On March 23, at approximately 9:26 p.m., CPD officers attempted a traffic stop on a vehicle in the area of Pine Street and Washington Street in reference to a vehicle driving without any lights. The vehicle came to a brief stop, when a front passenger exited and attempted to flee on foot. After a short pursuit, the vehicle again stopped, this time in the area of Jimpson Road, where the driver was arrested.

George Nash Briscoe, 27 years old of Cambridge, was charged with multiple offenses, including Attempt by Driver to Elude Uniformed Police by Failing to Stop Vehicle

This incident is still under investigation and additional charges may be pending.
