DOVER — The Dover Century Club has awarded a $1,000 college scholarship to Dover High School senior Laura Therese D. Garcia, daughter of Anna Maria and Jose Armando Garcia.

The award was announced at the club’s annual spring luncheon.

At Dover High, Laura has excelled in academics, including myriad Advanced Placement courses, and is ranked second in her class of 421. She is a member of the National Honor Society and an AP Scholar of Distinction, and was awarded the Bausch + Lomb Honorary Science Award, among others.

Laura sings with the Delaware Choral Society and has participated in the Delaware Science Olympiad. She is committed to improving the lives of others by collecting school supplies and books for needy children in her native country, the Philippines.

In the fall, Laura plans to major in chemical engineering, merging her love of chemistry and higher-level mathematics. She has received admission and merit scholarship offers from several universities and will decide which to attend in the coming weeks.
