Capital School District joins Verizon Learning Initiative

Posted

DOVER– The Capital School District has joined the Verizon Innovative Learning initiative, which aims to address barriers for digital inclusion.

In partnership with Digital Promise, the program equips every student and teacher at select middle and high schools across the country with a device and up to a four-year data plan.

The School of Excellence and School of Innovation, both located on Dover Middle School’s campus, and Dover High School, are among the 32 new schools joining the 10th cohort of Verizon Innovative Learning Schools.

This brings the program to nearly 600 middle and high schools nationwide.

In addition to free laptops with accompanying Verizon data plans for every student and teacher beginning in fall 2023, participating schools will be assigned a full-time coach to train teachers in effectively integrating technology into their lessons.

“The Capital School District is overjoyed to be selected as the first district in Delaware to participate in the Verizon Innovative Learning Initiative and to embark on our strategic partnership with both Digital Promise and Verizon," said Dr. Vilicia Cade, Capital School District CEO and superintendent.

It is with these kinds of intentional reciprocal partnerships that all of our Senators will be strategically positioned to better compete in our changing global economy while advancing excellence through innovation in the Middle School of Excellence, the Middle School of Innovation and at our sapphire jewel, Dover High School."

“So many students across the nation lack the access to technology and resources they need to be successful in today’s digital world," said Mario Acosta-Velez, of Verizon's State and Government Affairs. "On behalf of Verizon, we are excited to help enable students in the Capital School District to develop the skills, knowledge, and capabilities for a more promising future."
