DOVER — The Dover Lions Club, in partnership with the city’s Parks & Recreation department, the mayor and City Council, the United Way of Delaware and several other organizations, installed Dover’s first United Way Born Learning Trail.
The trail is available at Silver Lake Park, 300 Washington St. It was built by Mayor Robin Christiansen, members of City Council and Parks & Recreation staff, as well as members of the Capitol City Lions Club, the Bellefonte Lions and Leo clubs, Alpha Phi Alpha and Alpha Zeta Beta.
The project is titled, “Growing a Love of Literacy on Earth Day.” The trail is a fun, easy way to build skills that are important for school readiness, with a series of signs suggesting expert-approved educational games.
The Born Learning program began in 2005 as a set of tools for parents, caregivers and communities to create early-learning opportunities. Designed to support parents as their child’s first teacher, Born Learning is a long-standing resource across the United Way network. More than 750 trails have been installed in parks, at schools and in communities.
