BeINVOLVED hosts bike drive for coastal Delaware community

Posted

REHOBOTH BEACH — La Vida Hospitality’s beINVOLVED initiative is hosting a bike drive.

The group is committed to promoting wellness for the community and hospitality workers through education, financial support and connection to health experts.

Four years ago, beINVOLVED director Kathy McDonald and catering chef Steve Carey began collecting funds to donate bikes to children during the holiday season. Starting with 10 bikes and growing to 40 in 2021, they are on track to distribute over 50 bikes and 10 skateboards to children in Sussex County this year.

The group has coordinated with organizations such as the Community Resource Center, Santa’s Letters, West Side New Beginnings, the Oak Orchard Riverdale and Rehoboth Beach Boys & Girls Clubs, Children’s Beach House and Cape Community Cares to ensure all bikes and skateboards make their ways to children.

Team members from La Vida Hospitality’s businesses began assembly of the bikes Dec. 9, with drop-offs starting Dec. 13.
