SMYRNA - The suspicious deaths reported by the Smyrna Police Department on Monday are being investigated as an apparent murder-suicide incident, spokesman Lt. Brian Donner said.

Officers who responded to the home in the 2000 block of Providence Drive for a check on the welfare located two deceased males in the upstairs living area, Lt. Donner said on Tuesday. Both males died from gunshot wounds to their upper extremities.

The relationship between the victims is believed to be a father and son and Lt. Donner said detectives continue to investigate a motive in this incident.
The suspected weapon used in this incident was recovered at the scene, police said.

The scene investigation was concluded and there was no current police activity in the area, Lt. Donner said just prior to 2:30 p.m. There was no threat to public safety, he said.

More details including the victim’s identity will be released when all next of kin are notified, Lt. Donner said. No further details were currently available for release, he said.
