Office of Highway Safety offers Sober Rides for New Year’s

Posted

DOVER – The Delaware Office of Highway Safety is providing their Sober Rides program on New Year’s Eve so Delawareans “don’t drop the ball” on roadway safety.

This program provides $20 ride-share vouchers for rides from Uber or Lyft. It aims to reduce the number of DUI-related crashes in Delaware by connecting people with convenient, low-cost alternative transportation options.

The Sober Rides vouchers are redeemable beginning on Dec. 31 at 5 p.m. until Jan. 1 at 2:30 a.m. The Office of Highway Safety recommends people to plan ahead by downloading and depositing their voucher into their preferred ride-sharing app before heading out to their New Year’s Eve plans.

Several Delaware businesses, including the top sponsor, Breakthru Beverage, supported the voucher availability.

The vouchers can be accessed at mysoberrides.com. People will also be encouraged to leverage the opportunity through promotions on social media and online advertising.

Sober Rides posters, table tents and business cards will be displayed at bars, restaurants and liquor stores. The Delaware Office of Highway Safety street teams will also be at select locations throughout the weekend before New Year’s Eve to share materials and encourage voucher downloads.
