Milford Museum to discuss ‘Secret Rosies of World War II’

The Milford Museum’s American History Series will celebrate Women’s History Month with a program about the “Secret Rosies of World War II” on Saturday, March 8, at 1 p.m. at the Milford Public Library, 11 S.E. Front St.

The program will be presented by Trish Chambers, author of “Civil War Women: Their Roles and Legacies” and “Lighthouses of the New Jersey Lighthouse Challenge.” Chambers has appeared on the History Channel, on radio and in the movie “Gods and Generals.”

While many can conjure up images of Rosie the Riveter, who symbolized the women who stepped into the manufacturing, military and civilian jobs that kept America running during World War II and supplied the troops needs overseas, another group of accomplished women from that era took stories about their wartime activities to their graves.

Chambers’ presentation will cover where these “Secret Rosies” came from, what they accomplished and the surprising impact they had on the outcome of the war.

The Milford Museum offers monthly programs that focus on a variety of topics concerning local, state and national history. These presentations are held on the second Saturday of each month, at 1:00 p.m., at Milford Public Library.

For more information, call 302-424-1080 or e-mail Tom Summers at tom@milforddemuseum.org. These programs are financed by a grant from The Delaware Heritage Commission.
