SALISBURY — Wicomico County Executive Julie Giordano has announced that the county’s government building will open for normal business hours Jan 8 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The county’s convenience centers and ferries will operate as normal, but Wicomico County Schools will be closed.
Wicomico County Council has rescheduled the Jan. 7 legislative meeting for Thursday evening.
Giordano said in a post that as of 2 p.m., the Public Works Department and County Roads teams have completed:
• 1,432 plow miles cleared in the Wicomico Road Inventory
• 53 vehicle operators behind the wheel of 43 vehicles (commercial-weight and light trucks)
• 78 tons of salt dispensed
• 4,000 miles driven to clear the snow
• 600 gallons of fuel consumed
• 7.5 inches of snow accumulated (compared to 1.4 inches in 2024 and 0.5 inches in 2019). The last time the county witnessed 7.5 inches was in 2009
“Let’s also take a moment to recognize that the average longevity of a Public Works Equipment operator is less than 6 years,” Giordano said. “Thank you to all those who keep our roads safe and clear. Stay safe, and we’ll see you at the government building tomorrow.”
