Delaware State Police helicopter flown by pilot Jim Wolfe and co-pilot Tom Robbins (pictured) responded to the area searching for a robbery suspect, unaware of the murders committed by Billy Bailey.  They spotted Bailey running through a field carrying what appeared to be a shotgun. Wolfe brought the helicopter down low enough for Robbins to jump out and chase Bailey on foot.     Robbins caught up to Bailey and tackled him, knocking the shotgun to the ground.  Bailey pulled out a pistol and shot at the trooper narrowly missing his face but the bullet ripped the microphone off of his helmet.
